Questions to Ask a Plumbing Contractor

Whe N you hire a plumbing contractor, the first question on your mind might be “can you fix my plumbing issue?” While that’s a good question to ask, it’s not the only one you should have on your list when the plumber arrives. According to the video “A day in the life of a Service Plumber (#1),” plumbers perform many different types of tasks from installing a new toilet to replacing a faucet. Unless you ask specific questions related to your problem, your plumber might not know how to help you and you might not know how they can help you, either.

Before the plumber arrives, you should ask about their rates for services. They may charge flat rates for specific jobs or they may charge an hourly rate. Some plumbers might wrap any material costs into their labor while others may charge separately for the materials. Although you might not have a choice in paying whatever it costs for the plumber to fix an essential part of your home, it’s better to get these details upfront so you can plan ahead and line up the funds needed to finance the job.

If you’re having a hard time paying for plumbing work, you can ask about payment plans. You can also ask what jobs seem essential. Regardless, communication is key.
